Players can play Online in a number of different session types: Sessions were expanded to 30 players (with 2 extra spaces for spectators) on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. Originally, sessions were limited to 16 players on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360. The game consists of open world sessions based in San Andreas. While the game was initially set a few months prior to the events of Grand Theft Auto V in 2013, the narrative of more recent updates, starting with 2017's Gunrunning update, takes place in their respective years of release.
